What if I'm still working at 65 and have my employer's health insurance?

If you're still working at 65 and covered by an employer group plan with 20 or more employees, you can often delay Medicare without penalty. Most people enroll in Part A right away because it's premium-free if you've worked at least 10 years. You may want to hold off on Part B since it costs $202.90 per month in 2026. Once your job or coverage ends, you get an eight-month Special Enrollment Period to sign up for Part B penalty-free. Employers with fewer than 20 workers change the math, so your Medicare may pay first. Check with your benefits administrator to confirm how your plan coordinates. Want help deciding what to do?
