What is Medicare Supplement coverage?

Medicare Supplement insurance, also called Medigap, is extra coverage you buy from a private insurance company to help pay your share of costs under Original Medicare. It fills the gaps. That means it covers things like copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles that Medicare leaves you paying out of pocket. For example, Medigap can help pay the 2026 Part A hospital deductible of $1,736 and the Part B deductible of $283. To buy a policy, you generally need both Part A and Part B. These plans work only with Original Medicare, not Medicare Advantage. Plans use standardized letters, so a Plan G from one company covers the same as a Plan G from another.
