South Jersey Medicare Advantage Changes for 2027, by County

By Anthony Orner, Licensed Medicare Insurance Broker, Cherry Hill, NJ · Data built 2026-10-03

77,083 of the 80,165 South Jersey residents in individual Medicare Advantage plans that continue into 2027 will have a higher out-of-pocket maximum next year. That is 96%. The figures come from CMS's 2026 and 2027 plan files, matched to CMS enrollment for September 2026, across Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Salem counties.

Every plan mails its members an Annual Notice of Change by September 30. This page lays those changes side by side, plan by plan, with the number of people each one reaches.

Counts cover individual plans; employer-group plans are not in CMS's plan files. Cost-change counts exclude special-needs plans, most of whose members have Medicaid paying their costs. Braven Health is leaving. Here's who that reaches.

Braven Health, launched in 2020 by Horizon, Hackensack Meridian Health and RWJBarnabas Health (launch announcement), has no individual Medicare Advantage plans in CMS's 2027 list. It had 10 in 2026, with at least 42,349 members statewide in September. In South Jersey that is 7,639 people. Employer-group Braven plans aren't in CMS's plan files and aren't counted here. Horizon's own 2027 Medicare Advantage plans are special-needs plans only: Horizon NJ TotalCare, for people with Medicaid, and Horizon Specialty Care, which CMS lists only in North Jersey counties. A South Jersey Braven member without Medicaid has no Horizon or Braven Medicare Advantage plan to move into.

Out-of-pocket maximums rise almost everywhere

The out-of-pocket maximum is the most you pay in a year for in-network care. CMS let plans set it as high as $9,850 for 2027. Across South Jersey, 42,188 members are in plans that moved to exactly that. The typical increase is $600 in Camden County.

“Carrier leaving” counts members whose company offers no plan in that county for 2027 (Braven Health and HealthSpring). “$0 plans” counts standard plans with no monthly premium, including plans without drug coverage. New in 2027: Devoted Health enters Burlington, Camden, Gloucester and Salem.

Camden County: the ten biggest plans, side by side

Clover Health Choice (PPO) is Camden County's largest standard plan, with 3,677 members. Its premium stays $0. Its out-of-pocket maximum goes from $8,500 to $9,850, and its drug deductible from $0 to $350. A $0 premium tells you little about what the year costs.

These South Jersey plans have no 2027 listing under their 2026 plan ID. Some are closing. Others fold into another plan from the same company, and members move automatically. Your Annual Notice of Change says which. CMS publishes its official crosswalk of merged plans later in the fall.

New Jersey's two biggest individual drug plans go opposite ways

Wellcare Value Script (PDP) is the largest stand-alone drug plan sold to individuals in New Jersey, with 183,836 members. Its premium drops from $22.80 to $5.30 a month. AARP Medicare Rx Preferred from UHC (PDP) is second, with 94,512 members. It rises from $118.90 to $210.70, about $1,102 more a year for anyone who stays.

8 of the 10 drug plans that continue in New Jersey raise their premium, reaching 327,220 members. As in 2026, no New Jersey drug plan has a $0 premium in 2027 for people without Extra Help. CMS is ending its Part D Premium Stabilization Demonstration after 2026 (CMS fact sheet, July 28, 2026); it had lowered premiums and capped yearly increases for participating stand-alone plans.

“Not offered” means no 2027 plan under the same ID (HealthSpring Extra Rx (PDP), 26,657 NJ members; HealthSpring Assurance Rx (PDP), 3,853 NJ members). The company may have moved members to a plan under a new number; their letter says where.

If you have a Medigap plan, this table is your drug coverage. Medigap never covers prescriptions, so the Part D plan is a separate bill. For an AARP Medicare Rx Preferred member, that bill rises about $1,102 in 2027.

Five lines to find in your Annual Notice of Change

  1. Whether your plan continues, merges into another plan or ends.
  2. The in-network out-of-pocket maximum, compared with $9,850.
  3. The drug deductible, and which drug tiers it applies to.
  4. The monthly premium, including any Part B give-back that shrank.
  5. Whether your doctors and pharmacy are still in network. CMS's files don't show this; the plan's directory does.

Open enrollment runs October 15 to December 7. More on choosing an agent here: Medicare broker in South Jersey.

South Jersey 2027 Medicare Questions

Methodology. Plans are matched by contract, plan and segment ID between the CMS CY2026_Landscape_202609.csv and CY2027_Landscape_202609.1.csv files. A plan with no 2027 row under the same ID in that county is listed as not offered under the same plan ID; the CMS 2027 plan crosswalk, not yet published, will separate closures from mergers. Members are CMS enrollment for 2026-09 by contract and plan in each county; CMS hides counts of 10 or fewer (21,933 New Jersey rows), which are counted as zero, so member totals are a floor. Employer-group plans (plan IDs 800 and up) are not in the Landscape files and are not counted. The two largest drug plans are ranked among plans sold to individuals. Premium is the monthly Part C plus Part D premium before any Extra Help. Out-of-pocket maximum is in-network. Cost-change counts exclude special-needs plans. The 2027 in-network limit of $9,850 is from the CMS 2027 Rate Announcement. Built 2026-10-03.
