Medicare Advantage Plans for Veterans in Florida, 2027

By Anthony Orner, Licensed Medicare Insurance Broker (NPN 20586791), licensed in Florida. Plan data from the CMS 2027 Plan Benefit Package and Landscape files dated 2026-10-03.

For veterans in Florida, 17 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027 cut the Part B premium by at least $202.90 a month, the whole 2026 standard premium (CMS sets the 2027 premium in the fall). They are the far end of a big field: 308 individual plans sold under 20 company names (Aetna Medicare, BayCare Health Plans, Capital Health Plan, CarePlus Health Plans, Inc., Devoted Health, Doctors HealthCare Plans, Inc., Florida Blue, Florida Blue HMO, Freedom Health, Inc., Health First Health Plans, Inc., HealthSpring, HealthSun Health Plans, Inc., Humana, Leon Health, Inc., Optimum HealthCare, Inc., Prominence Health Plan, Solis Health Plans, Ultimate Health Plans, UnitedHealthcare and Wellcare), and 144 of them lower Part B by something.

Those are the plans on offer from October 15 to December 7, 2026, for coverage starting January 1. For a veteran who gets most care from the VA, here is what the numbers mean.

Where the Largest Part B Reductions Are

The 17 plans that match the full 2026 premium come from 6 companies (Freedom Health, Inc., HealthSun Health Plans, Inc., Leon Health, Inc., Optimum HealthCare, Inc., Prominence Health Plan and Ultimate Health Plans), and they are sold in 20 of Florida's 67 counties. Every county has at least one plan with some reduction. Among plans that offer one, the middle reduction is $100.10 a month.

Choice depends on where you live. Monroe County has 7 plans; Hillsborough County has 52. A plan with a large reduction can also have a narrow network or a higher out-of-pocket limit, so the reduction is one line to compare, not the whole decision.

The Snowbird Catch

Medicare Advantage plans are local. Every plan must cover emergencies and urgent care anywhere in the country, but routine care is a different matter. Away from Florida, an HMO generally pays nothing for a regular doctor visit, and a PPO pays at its out-of-network rate.

VA care travels; you can use VA facilities in any state. A veteran who winters in Florida and summers elsewhere can lean on the VA for routine care in both places and use the plan for emergencies and civilian care at home. If you rely on civilian doctors in two states, Original Medicare with a Medigap policy follows you everywhere; a Florida plan does not.

Drug Coverage and the VA Pharmacy

22 Florida plans leave drug coverage out (from Aetna Medicare, CarePlus Health Plans, Inc., Devoted Health, Florida Blue, Freedom Health, Inc., Health First Health Plans, Inc., HealthSpring, Humana and UnitedHealthcare), and 20 of those lower the Part B premium. They suit a veteran whose every prescription comes from a VA clinician. The VA pays for civilian prescriptions only after an urgent care visit, up to 14 days, at an in-network pharmacy in the same state. VA prescriptions and Part D, explained.

Dental in Florida Plans

281 of the 308 plans give every member comprehensive dental. Of the 180 that file one yearly maximum, the middle one is $1,500. 60 pair a $0 premium with a maximum of $3,000 or more, from Aetna Medicare, BayCare Health Plans, Devoted Health, Florida Blue HMO, HealthSpring, HealthSun Health Plans, Inc., Humana, Leon Health, Inc., Prominence Health Plan, Solis Health Plans, UnitedHealthcare and Wellcare. Delta Dental's VADIP plan with that maximum starts at $39.79 a month at 2026 prices. How VADIP and plan dental compare.

Florida Veterans and Medicare Advantage

Methodology. Counts cover individual HMO, HMO-POS, PPO, PFFS and Regional PPO plans sold in Florida for 2027, from the CMS Plan Benefit Package and Medicare Advantage Landscape files dated 2026-10-03. Special-needs, cost, employer and Medical Savings Account plans are left out. Company counts follow the names CMS lists, so affiliated insurers can appear more than once. The full-premium count compares each plan's filed reduction with the 2026 standard premium; CMS sets the 2027 premium in the fall. A dental maximum is counted only when the plan files one yearly amount for comprehensive dental that is not pooled with other benefits.
