Why Your Quote Doesn't Say Aetna
Aetna is a brand. The policy is a contract with one licensed insurer, and Aetna uses 4 of them for Medigap in our states. Rate filings, and the quoting tools built on them, carry the insurer's legal name, so a shopper sees “Continental Life Insurance Company of Brentwood” and has never heard of it.
Continental Life and American Continental Insurance Company joined Aetna in 2011. New Jersey's state list of Medigap companies names a third Aetna insurer, Aetna Health Insurance Company, and Aetna Health and Life Insurance Company issues in the remaining states on this page.
The Filing Record
Filings of 20% or more show up in Arizona, Montana, North Carolina, Indiana, Tennessee, Ohio, Virginia, Alabama, South Carolina, New Hampshire, Colorado, West Virginia and New Jersey, in 2025, 2026 or both. Aetna's Plan G sits in the more expensive half of its board in 22 of the 23 states on this page, so a steep filing lands on a price that is already above the middle.
If you hold an Aetna policy and your renewal jumped, the question is what a switch costs at your age today. Outside a guaranteed-issue window, most states let the new carrier ask health questions.
Where Aetna Is Competitive
Plan N. In Arkansas, Continental Life's Plan N is $133.45, 2 of 23, while its Plan G is 14 of 23. In Delaware, Aetna Health Insurance's Plan N is $119.12, 3 of 18, while its Plan G is 17 of 20. If you are open to Plan N's copays, that is the Aetna filing worth pricing.

Rates are carrier filed rates from CSG Actuarial, pulled September 9, 2026 to October 17, 2026: one flagship county per state, a 65-year-old woman, non-tobacco, no household discount. Issuing companies are keyed on NAIC (Continental Life 68500, Aetna Health Insurance 72052, Aetna Health and Life 78700, American Continental 12321). Aetna also files in California, Nebraska, Iowa and Oklahoma, left out because we don't place business there. The 2011 date is from the closing notice of that sale; the New Jersey insurer is from the state's Medigap company list (checked October 2026).
