By Anthony Orner, Independent Licensed Medicare Insurance Broker

Texas filed-rate data pulled 2026-07-12, CSG Actuarial · Houston, ZIP 77002

A 65-year-old in Houston pays $129.92 to $284.86 a month for Plan G across 24 Texas carriers (CSG Actuarial filed rates, 2026-07-12). At 69 the same person pays $132.52 to $296.90. The floor moved $2.60 across those four years. The ceiling moved $12.04.

Carriers pay the broker; the price you pay is the same either way.

Plan G at 65, 67 and 69 in Houston

Plan G pays what Original Medicare leaves behind except the Part B deductible, $283 in 2026. Every carrier below sells that same policy at its own price.

65$129.92$284.86$154.9424
67$129.92$287.71$157.79+$0.0024
69$132.52$296.90$164.38+$2.6024

CSG Actuarial filed rates, 2026-07-12. ZIP 77002 (Houston), female, non-tobacco, individual, no household discount. Step at the floor is the change in the cheapest filed rate from the row above.

Nothing happens at the bottom between 65 and 67: $129.92 at both ages, then $132.52 at 69. The top of the market does the moving: $284.86, then $287.71, then $296.90. The gap widens from $154.94 to $164.38. At 69 the dearest Texas Plan G costs 124% more than the cheapest, for identical benefits.

Plan N Starts Lower and Spreads Wider

Plan N opens at $99.14 at 65 across 23 carriers, $30.78 under the cheapest Plan G. It asks up to $20 for some office visits and up to $50 for an emergency room visit that does not end in admission, and it leaves Part B excess charges to you. Plan G covers those. Neither pays the $283 Part B deductible.

69$101.12$296.00$194.88+$1.9823

Same Houston profile and same source date as the Plan G table.

Now read the spread column. Plan N widens from $143.86 at 65 to $194.88 at 69, a $51.02 gain, about 5.4 times the $9.44 Plan G adds over the same four years. The floor barely moves, $99.14 to $101.12. The ceiling goes $243.00 to $296.00. Shop Plan N harder at 67 and 69, not less.

Attained Age, Issue Age and Community Rated in Texas

Texas does not pick a pricing method for the market. The carrier does. Of the 26 carriers in that county pull, 24 file attained age, 1 issue age, 1 community rated.

Read every age column as today's price for a person of that age, not a forecast of your own premium. A Texan buying at 65 in 2026 pays whatever her carrier has filed by the time she is 80.

The Household Discount Does Not Reach the Texas Floor

4 of the 24 Houston Plan G carriers file a household discount, worth 11.1% to 20%. The cheapest discounted Plan G at 65 is $145.29. The cheapest plain rate is $129.92, $15.37 under it, because the floor carrier files no discount. At 69 the discounted floor is $150.79.

Plan N has the same shape: 3 carriers, 12.1% to 20%, a discounted floor of $106.86 against $99.14 plain. Rules differ by company: a spouse on the policy for some, any other adult in the house holding Medigap coverage for others. Couples get quoted both ways.

Applying Before Part B Starts

Texas carriers take an application up to six months before your Part B start date. The premium is set by your age when coverage begins, so filing ahead of the birthday puts the first year in the 65 band: on the Houston table, $129.92 to $284.86.

It buys a starting rate, not a fixed one. 24 of the 26 carriers step at every birthday after that. Block filings land on top: 22 Texas Plan G rate changes appear in the CSG Actuarial filing records from December 2025 through September 2026, a median of 17.99% and a top of 98.42%.

The other reason to move early has nothing to do with price. Your six-month Medigap open enrollment window starts the month you are 65 and enrolled in Part B, and inside it all 24 carriers take you at the filed rate with no health questions. After it, a Texas carrier can underwrite unless a guaranteed-issue right applies. Age matters twice: for the rate, and for the questions.

Where You Live in Texas Moves the Floor

Texas has 254 counties in 116 rating areas, and a carrier can file a different Plan G rate in each. On the September 10, 2026 county pull, the cheapest Plan G at 65 was $113.32 in Anderson County and $155.34 in Chambers County. They are $42.02 apart. Texas held 945,247 Medigap policies as of December 2023, 507,049 of them Plan G (NAIC statewide by plan letter, via AHIP, May 2025). Your ZIP is the quote.
