New Era Life (New Era Life Insurance Company, NAIC 78743) is a Houston, Texas insurer that sells Plan G and Plan N Medigap in the 7 other states below. As of September 11, 2026 CSG data, its best price position anywhere on this page is Texas, 4 of 26 filed carriers — its home state, and the only place it cracks the top 5.

Almost nothing independent has been written about New Era Life's Medigap pricing outside Texas. This review is built from filed premiums, price rank against every competing carrier, and rate-increase history — from the licensed broker who can actually place the policy.

Two Companies Named "New Era Life" — Which One Is on Your Quote?

This review covers New Era Life Insurance Company (NAIC 78743), which files Plan G in Texas, Florida, Arizona, Indiana, Ohio, Alabama and Arkansas and Plan N only in Georgia. A sister company under the same Houston ownership, New Era Life Insurance Company of the Midwest (NAIC 69698), sells under the identical "New Era Life" display name in North Carolina, Mississippi, Pennsylvania and Tennessee — its own filed rate, its own rank, its own filing history, none of it on this page.

Check the NAIC, not just the name. A quote, an agent-recruiting flyer, or medicare.gov's Medigap finder may just say "New Era Life" for either company. If your paperwork names the Midwest entity, the rates and rank below don't describe your policy — call with your ZIP and I'll pull the correct board.

Source: CSG Actuarial licensed API as of September 11, 2026. Female 65, non-tobacco, individual rate as filed, quoted through one sample ZIP per rating area in each state's flagship county; rates in other ZIPs may differ. Georgia (highlighted) is the one state where this company files Plan N but no Plan G at all. New Era also files in Oklahoma, left out because it's a birthday-rule state we stay out of. Full detail on the Midwest sister company above is its own review.

Every state's Plan G pays the same federally standardized benefits, so price, rate basis and filing history are what actually separate carriers. New Era Life's cheapest dollar premium and its best rank happen to be the same state — Texas, where home-market pricing and a top-5 position line up. Its highest dollar premium is Florida at $243.02, yet that only ranks 9 of 23 — Florida's whole board simply prices higher, so a bigger number there doesn't mean a worse relative deal. Outside Texas, it leads no board at all and reaches the top 5 nowhere else.

Why a New Era Life Quote Behaves Differently From State to State

CSG's filed rate basis splits New Era Life's footprint three ways. In 4 of the 7 states on this page — Texas, Indiana, Ohio and Alabama — it prices Medigap on an attained-age basis: the premium rises every year or so you get older, on top of whatever percentage the company files for the whole block. Arkansas is community rated instead, so every policyholder pays the same price regardless of the age they bought the policy at. Florida and Arizona price it issue-age: your premium is locked at the age you enrolled and only moves with a filed rate change, never with your birthday.

That split matters more than the headline premium. A 65-year-old in Texas, Indiana, Ohio and Alabama who keeps the policy to 80 pays two kinds of increases every year: New Era's filed percentage, plus the age-based step the rate basis itself builds in. The same filed percentage in Arkansas or an issue-age state costs the policyholder only the filed amount.

Back-to-Back Double-Digit Filings Are the Norm Here

Arizona, Ohio, Alabama and Arkansas filed a Plan G increase of 10% or more in both 2025 and 2026 — 4 of the 7 states where we place this New Era Life entity. The steepest genuine 2026 filing, 20%, landed in Alabama.

A new-business rank only describes what a first-year buyer pays. If you already own a New Era Life policy and your renewal letter just arrived, call and compare it against what a new application would cost today — outside a guaranteed-issue right, switching carriers means new health questions.

Read Texas's filing history carefully. CSG's record shows New Era Life filed +98.42% in Texas in December 2025, then -37.42% in August 2026 — a pair that mostly cancels out. That pattern (a large filing largely reversed within about a year) is what a product re-file or schedule restatement looks like in CSG's data, not two real rate actions a Texas policyholder actually paid. The current filed rate, $168.24, is what matters, and it's the lowest New Era Life premium on this page.

New Era Life Plan N: Its Stronger Showing

Unlike its Plan G, New Era's Plan N never bottoms a board in the 7 states on this page. Its strongest Plan N showing is Arkansas, 6 of 23. Georgia goes further still: New Era files no Plan G there, but its Plan N ranks 2 of 22 — the best Plan N position it holds anywhere, in the one state where Plan N is the only policy it sells.

Plan N costs less than Plan G because you pay up to $20 at some office visits and up to $50 at the ER, plus any Part B excess charges the provider bills. On New Era Life, that trade comes with a noticeably better market position than its Plan G does.
