How to judge any Medicare broker (including us)
- Independent, not captive. Ask how many carriers they represent. A captive agent can only show one company's plans.
- Shows filed rates, not just one quote. The spread between carriers for identical Plan G benefits runs from about $150 to over $220 a month in the states we track. You should see the range, not a single number.
- Asks about household and tobacco status. Household discounts of 10–20% exist in every state we cover, and most carriers surcharge tobacco users. A quote that skips those questions is incomplete.
- Licensed in your state. Verify any broker's National Producer Number — mine is 20586791.
