Florida Medicare Supplement Pricing at 65, 70, 75 and 80

By Anthony Orner, Independent Licensed Medicare Insurance Broker · Florida filed-rate data pulled September 9, 2026, CSG Actuarial · Hillsborough County (ZIP 33547)

Plan G for a 65-year-old woman in Hillsborough County runs $200.58 to $293.55 a month across 24 Florida carriers, per CSG Actuarial filings pulled September 9, 2026. Buy the cheapest one at 70 instead and the entry rate is $222.33. At 75 it is $236.97, at 80 $262.64. All 24 carriers price Florida on issue age, which the state requires. The age on the application sets the rate. Later birthdays don't touch it. Below: Plan G and Plan N at all four entry ages. Then the carriers whose entry price climbs most. Then why a Tampa table under-quotes Miami by $59.99 a month.

Carriers pay the broker; the price you pay is the same either way.

Read the cheapest column as stairs. The first step, 65 to 70, is $21.75. The next, 70 to 75, is $14.64. The last, 75 to 80, is $25.67, the tallest of the three. Across all fifteen years the cheapest entry rate rises $62.06, about 31%. The top row moves further: $293.55 at 65 becomes $446.41 at 80, up $152.86.

The spread inside the 65 column matters as much as the stairs. The dearest filing at 65 costs $92.97 a month more than the cheapest. That is 46% more for the same Plan G benefits. Over 20 years that gap alone is $22,313, before any carrier files an increase. Every row shares one limit. Plan G leaves the $283 Part B deductible with the policyholder each year.

Plan N Entry Rates at the Same Four Ages

Plan N in Hillsborough County starts at $148.43 at 65, $52.15 under the cheapest Plan G. 23 of the 24 Plan G carriers file a Plan N here too.

Same profile and ZIP as the Plan G table. Filed rates as of September 9, 2026. The USAA Life row at 65 is flagged below.

One row needs a flag. USAA Life's Plan N filing at 65 reads $680.34 in the data and $269.62 at 70. I would re-quote that one by phone before anyone relied on it.

The trade is copays. Up to $20 at some office visits, up to $50 at the ER when you aren't admitted. Plan N also leaves Part B excess charges unpaid. The premium gap at 65 is $52.15 a month, $626 a year. The copays would have to reach that before Plan G came out ahead. At 80 the cheapest Plan N entry rate is $196.66 from Medico Insurance Company, against $262.64 for the cheapest Plan G.

Hillsborough County, ZIP 33547, female, non-tobacco, individual. Carriers with two rows under one name are separate NAIC entities and are labeled.

Washington National has the steepest entry curve, $215.80 at 65 to $446.41 at 80, up $230.61 or 107%. AARP / UnitedHealthcare is next at $148.36, then Florida Blue at $122.06. At the flat end, Medico Insurance Company moves $36.03 over the same fifteen years, from $226.61 to $262.64.

Keep the meaning straight. Every carrier in this file is issue-age rated. The table shows what a new buyer pays at each age. It is not the path one bill follows. A woman who buys at 65 stays on the age-65 rate. The 107% is the cost of waiting until 80 to buy, plus whatever the block files in between.

Issue Age Is the Whole Florida Story

Carriers price Medigap three ways. Attained-age: the premium rises with each birthday, plus block filings. Issue-age: set by the age at purchase. After that it moves only when the carrier files an increase on the block. Community-rated: one premium for every age, moving only with filings. Florida's mix is not a mix. 24 of 24 carriers file issue age, because Florida requires issue-age rating for Medigap.

That changes the math on waiting. In an attained-age state the 70 column previews your own bill. In Florida it is the price of a late start. GPM Health and Life, the cheapest Plan G at 65, files $200.58 at 65 and $222.33 at 70. Five years of waiting costs $21.75 a month at the start, before any filing.

Filings still land. 20 of the 24 carriers have a Florida filing effective in 2026. The newest is dated September 1, 2026. United American filed +17.8% on Plan G effective March 2026, the largest 2026 row in the state. An issue-age policy feels that percentage. It does not feel the age stairs.

The way to use this: apply up to six months before Part B starts. The application age is 65 and the rate is the 65 column. Inside the six-month open enrollment window there are no health questions. The first thing I ask a Florida caller is the Part B start date, not the carrier. Florida has no birthday-rule window for switching later. A move outside open enrollment means health questions unless a guaranteed-issue right applies.

Florida's Medigap block ranks 2 of 21 states in this dataset by covered lives. NAIC's December 2023 exhibit (AHIP, May 2025) counts 927,710 covered lives statewide. 473,057 are on Plan F, 221,938 on Plan G and 95,598 on Plan N. That is 51% still on Plan F. No one who became eligible for Medicare on or after January 1, 2020 can buy it. Those counts are statewide by plan letter, not by carrier or county. The Plan F rows in the file start at age 72, so there is no Plan F table here.

The Household Discount in Florida

4 of 24 carriers offer one, from 2.5% to 3%. GPM Health and Life, the cheapest Plan G at 65, files no household discount. Humana Insurance Company and AARP / UnitedHealthcare file the top 3%. 20 carriers file none, GPM Health and Life, Washington National, HealthSpring National Health (Cigna), State Farm among them.

The rules differ by carrier. Most want a second adult in the home. Some want both people on a Medigap policy with the same company. Even the top 3% leaves the dearest 65 filing at $284.74, above the $200.58 cheapest. Pick the carrier first and ask about the discount second.
