LifeShield National Medicare Supplement Review: Cheap Where It Is New, and Filing Fast
By Anthony Orner, Independent Licensed Medicare Insurance Broker · Filed rates pulled September 9, 2026 to September 14, 2026, CSG Actuarial · 23 states
The quote says “LifeShield Natl Ins Co”?
That is LifeShield National Insurance Company, NAIC 99724. CSG lists the parent as Homeshield Capital Grp and the Medigap book as dating from 2022. It is not LifeShield the home-alarm brand, and it has no tie to any Blue Cross “Shield” plan.
LifeShield National files Plan G at $125.11 to $243.14 a month across the 23 states in our licensed file, at 65 for a woman who does not use tobacco. It is the cheapest Plan G in Tennessee and a top-3 filing in 12 states. The other half of the record: 22 of those states carry a 2026 filing, 12 of them at 15% or more, topped by Nebraska at +23.2%.
Both facts come from the same place. A 2022 block wins shelf space by filing low, then files increases as the claims arrive. The AM Best rating is B++, below the A-range most of its competitors hold. None of that changes what the policy pays: Plan G benefits are federal, and a LifeShield Plan G settles the same bills as anyone else's.
The carrier pays the broker. The filed premium is the same with or without us.

CSG Actuarial licensed filings, pulled September 9, 2026 to September 14, 2026. Female, 65, non-tobacco, individual, no household discount, one sample ZIP in each flagship county. A different county, sex or age moves every figure.
Where the Price Is Real: Tennessee, Wyoming, Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, South Carolina, Indiana, Virginia, Iowa, West Virginia, Alabama and Oklahoma
In Tennessee the $145.19 Plan G is the floor of a 28-carrier board, $28.30 under the state median. The rest of the top-3 group runs $14.73 to $20.25 above each state's cheapest line, close enough that a household discount elsewhere can flip the order. In New Jersey, Mississippi, Ohio, Delaware, Arkansas, North Carolina, Nebraska, Georgia, Texas and Florida it is mid-table, ranks 4 to 10, still under the median in 7 of them.
Pennsylvania is where the name stops helping: 15 of 27 in Pennsylvania at $207.13, $38.54 over the floor. The lesson is the usual one for a young carrier: the rate is a state-by-state decision, not a brand. Read the row for your state, not the headline.
The Filing Ladder: 7% in 2024, 15% in 2026
Every LifeShield state shows the same shape. The first filings after launch are single digits, then the block matures and the percentages climb. Nebraska, Oklahoma, Arizona, Iowa, North Carolina and Pennsylvania took 20% or more this year. The gentlest 2026 filing is Arkansas at +9.0%. The percentages below add the filings in each calendar year; a blank cell means no filing that year in our records.

| Arkansas | +6.0% | +9.0% | +9.0% | community rated | $192.99 / $192.99 |
Filed changes as CSG reports them for each state; effective dates can trail the filing. A block filing lands on every LifeShield policyholder in that state, not one renewal.
Two things compound here. 19 of the 23 states price on attained age, so the birthday step and the block filing stack. In Tennessee the 65 rate of $145.19 is already $184.97 at 75 before any filing, a 27% climb on age alone. Arizona, Georgia and Florida are issue-age, so only the filings move a policy there. Arkansas is community-rated, one price at every age.
Holding a LifeShield renewal letter?
Tell me the state and the new premium. I put it against every other filed carrier there and say whether the underwriting questions are worth answering.
Rank My LifeShield Rate — 855-559-1700B++: What the Rating Does and Does Not Tell You
AM Best puts LifeShield National at B++. Most carriers sharing these boards sit at A- or better, so this is the low end of the field. A Medigap claim does not depend on it: Medicare adjudicates the bill and the supplement pays its federally fixed share through crossover, whatever the carrier's letter grade.
Where the rating and the filings meet is the decision to buy. A cheap opening premium from a 2022 block with 12 double-digit filings this year is a bet that you can re-shop later. That bet only works inside a guaranteed-issue window, or while your health passes underwriting. Buy it in the six-month open enrollment period, and keep the option to move.
Methodology
- Every figure is read at build time from our licensed CSG Actuarial state files, pulled September 9, 2026 to September 14, 2026. Nothing on this page is typed.
- Carrier identity is the NAIC code, 99724, matched in each state file. Company name, parent and start year are as CSG reports them.
- Rank is position among carriers returning a filed Plan G or Plan N quote for a woman aged 65, non-tobacco, individual, no household discount, at one sample ZIP in the flagship county.
- Direct-to-consumer and guaranteed-issue rate classes and rows above four times the state median are excluded from every board.
- Filing percentages are summed per calendar year from the carrier's rate-increase record in each state.
