Nassau Life Insurance Company Medicare Supplement Review: The Carrier That Cut Rates, Then Started Climbing
By Anthony Orner, Independent Licensed Medicare Insurance Broker · CSG Actuarial filings pulled September 10, 2026 to September 14, 2026 · 14 states
Nassau, Nassau Financial, or Phoenix?
All one company. Nassau Financial Group of Hartford bought The Phoenix Companies in 2016 and renamed Phoenix Life Insurance Company to Nassau Life Insurance Company, NAIC 67814. If an older relative holds a Phoenix life policy, it is the same insurer. CSG lists the parent as GGC Grp and the AM Best rating as B++.
Nassau Life files the cheapest Plan G in Delaware and Pennsylvania, $155.07 in New Castle County and $168.59 in Philadelphia County, and a top-3 rate in 6 of the 14 states where it appears. It also carries a filed rate decrease in 13 of its 14 states: 13 cuts between July 2021 and October 2022, -12.0% at the deepest.
The cuts are over. Since 2024 the filings run +13.0% in Delaware to +47.0% in Montana, and this year's top filing is +23.0% in Iowa. Read the two halves together: a low price in Pennsylvania today, and a carrier that has shown it will reprice a block it is not winning.
The carrier pays the broker. You pay the filed rate either way.

Pennsylvania: $168.59 and the Top of a 27-Carrier Board
In Philadelphia County the Nassau Plan G is the cheapest filing of 27, $13.72 under the median of $182.31. Its Plan N sits at $121.27, rank 3 of 27, so the same company is not the cheapest on both letters there. At 70 the Plan G is $182.73; at 75, $219.25, an age climb of 30% before any block filing.
The rest of the strong group is Delaware, South Carolina, Mississippi, North Carolina, Texas and Tennessee: 1 of 20 in Delaware at $155.07, $0.00 over the floor; 2 of 25 in South Carolina at $116.28, $1.98 over the floor; 2 of 23 in Mississippi at $130.39, $15.28 over the floor; 2 of 30 in North Carolina at $131.54, $16.57 over the floor; 3 of 26 in Texas at $166.22, $23.44 over the floor; 4 of 28 in Tennessee at $152.89, $7.70 over the floor. Then the drop: 14 of 22 in Alabama and 18 of 34 in Ohio, where a Nassau quote is not worth pursuing when the board floor is $118.17.
Every Nassau Filing on Record, 2021 to 2026
The decreases are real filings, not a data quirk: 13 states show one, all between 2021 and 2022. What followed is the same in every state: a year or two of small filings, then the ladder. Iowa never had a cut on record.

Got a Nassau letter with a bigger number on it?
Tell me the state and the new premium. If Nassau is still top-4 there, the letter is worth keeping; if not, I say which carriers on the board would take the application.
Rank My Nassau Rate — 855-559-1700Plan N: Top-5 in 6 States
Nassau's Plan N is ranked 1 of 18 at best, in Delaware at $115.65, and top-5 in Delaware, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Mississippi, North Carolina and Texas. It is never the cheapest N on a board in our file, so a Nassau Plan N is a sound second choice rather than a reason to pick the company. Plan N asks up to $20 at some office visits and up to $50 at an ER visit that does not admit you, and does not pay Part B excess charges. Both letters leave the $283 Part B deductible with you.
Methodology
- Rates, ranks and filings are read at build time from our licensed CSG Actuarial state files, pulled September 10, 2026 to September 14, 2026. No number on this page is typed by hand.
- The carrier is identified by NAIC 67814 in every state file. Ownership history is public corporate record; parent, start year and AM Best rating are as CSG reports them.
- Rank counts carriers returning a filed quote for a woman aged 65, non-tobacco, individual, no household discount, at one sample ZIP per flagship county.
- Direct-to-consumer and guaranteed-issue rate classes, and rows above four times the state median, are excluded from every board.
- “Since 2024” sums filed percentages with a 2024, 2025 or 2026 date; it does not compound them or include age steps.
