A 65-year-old in Charlotte pays $101.84 to $315.20 a month for Medigap Plan G, across 29 carriers filing the identical policy (CSG Actuarial filed rates, July 12, 2026). The top filing costs 3.1 times the bottom one and pays the same claims.

The middle is what catches callers out. North Carolina's median Plan G filing is $156.00, roughly 53% above the cheapest one (carrier review data, July 15, 2026). The floor is one carrier. The median is where most of the field sits. Over 20 years the top-to-bottom gap runs to about $51,206, before a single increase lands.

Three Things That Decide a North Carolina Medigap Price

The carrier, first

29 companies file Plan G for a 65-year-old in Charlotte, from $101.84 to $315.20. Federal law writes the benefits, not the carrier, so all 29 pay the same claims. What differs is the price and the filing habit behind it.

Your next birthday, second

27 of the 30 carriers in the September 10, 2026 county pull price North Carolina by attained age, 2 community rate it and 1 uses issue age. Attained age moves the premium every birthday, on top of whatever the block files. The top Plan G filing runs $315.20 at 65 and $341.00 at 69.

The 2026 filings, third

28 of those 30 carriers carry a filing effective in 2026. Of the 26 North Carolina rate changes in the CSG Actuarial filing records, 21 raised Plan G by 15% or more. Last year's ranking does not survive a year like that. Ask where a carrier sits today.

Where the Named Carriers Sit Against the North Carolina Median

Five North Carolina companies we have gone through line by line, measured against the $156.00 median filing. Rates, ranks and filings are from our carrier reviews, dated July 15, 2026.

Read the last column with the first. Bankers Fidelity (Atlantic Capital Life) holds the floor at $101.84 with one filing behind it. The carrier at rank 25 charges $184.64 for the same policy after four filings in four years. A rate is a number; a filing history is the pattern that produced it.

These five are not the whole field. 29 carriers filed a Plan G rate for this sample, and the ones without a published review still get quoted on every call.

Who Raised North Carolina Plan G for 2026

The largest Plan G increases filed on North Carolina blocks by carriers in our quote table, from the CSG Actuarial filing records covering December 2025 through June 2026.

26 North Carolina filings show up in those reports, and 21 of them moved Plan G by 15% or more. An effective date can land months after the report that carries it, so a spring report can hold a November change. A filing moves the carrier's whole North Carolina block, not one person's renewal, and it does not depend on any claim you filed.

Every state we track, carrier by carrier, is on the 2026 Medigap rate-increase page. If a letter just landed in your mailbox, that page and one phone call answer the same question.

County Lines Move the Floor Less Than the Carrier Does

North Carolina files Medigap by rating area. A separate county-level CSG pull dated September 10, 2026 found 73 of them across 100 counties, one quoted ZIP per county. The floor hardly budged. The cheapest filed Plan G at 65 was $114.97 in Alamance County and $131.54 in Yancey County, a gap of $16.57 across the whole state.

Put that $114.97 statewide floor against the other states we publish, floor against floor. Virginia, Texas and Michigan file lower, Virginia lowest at $94.61. The other 6 sit above North Carolina.

What did move is the size of the field. 31 carriers quoted the cheapest county and 31 quoted the dearest one. Your county mostly decides who is allowed to bid for you, and the carrier you pick decides the price.

That pull and the Charlotte snapshot are two different vintages, taken weeks apart by different methods, so their numbers do not line up exactly. Both are CSG Actuarial filed rates. Neither is your quote.

What Each Lettered Plan Still Leaves You to Pay

Plan G's single gap is the $283 Part B deductible. Plan N leaves that same deductible, adds copays of up to $20 for some office visits and up to $50 for an emergency room visit that does not end in admission, and does not cover Part B excess charges. Plan G does cover excess charges. Plans K and L split costs with you until a yearly cap.

PlanWhat it paysWho buys it
Plan AThe federal core benefits and nothing above themRarely the cheapest way to buy coverage
Plan GEvery Original Medicare gap except the Part B deductibleThe plan most new enrollees buy
Plan NPlan G, minus excess charges, plus two small copaysA lower premium in trade for office copays
Plan KHalf of most cost sharing until a yearly cap is metA low premium and real exposure in a bad year
Plan LThree quarters of most cost sharing until the capMiddle ground between Plan K and Plan N

North Carolina counted 463,867 Medigap policies in the NAIC December 2023 experience exhibit, published by AHIP in May 2025. Plan G held 227,301 of them and Plan N held 30,639. Plan F still held 180,281, about 39% of the state, years after closing to anyone who became eligible for Medicare on or after January 1, 2020. Those are statewide counts by plan letter, not carrier by carrier, and nobody new can buy that Plan F today.
