Plan G in Tennessee: Cheapest, Median and Highest at Each Age
29 carriers quote Plan G at 65 in Davidson County, 29 across the state. The table takes the whole state: the lowest filed rate in any Tennessee county, the median carrier, and the top filing. Profile: female, non-tobacco, individual policy, no household discount.
| Plan G at age | Cheapest filed (carrier) | Step from prior age | Median carrier | Highest filed (carrier) | Carriers |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 65 | $117.95 (SilverScript (Aetna)) | starting band | $173.49 | $358.58 (Guarantee Trust Life) | 29 |
| 70 | $125.03 (SilverScript (Aetna)) | +$7.08 | $194.00 | $381.21 (Guarantee Trust Life) | 29 |
| 75 | $147.02 (SilverScript (Aetna)) | +$21.99 | $230.02 | $453.12 (Guarantee Trust Life) | 29 |
| 80 | $170.69 (Physicians Mutual) | +$23.67 | $268.00 | $566.82 (Guarantee Trust Life) | 29 |
Cheapest is the lowest county low in Tennessee; Davidson County's own low at 65 is $117.95 (SilverScript (Aetna)). Highest is the priciest single filing statewide at its best rate class. Source: CSG Actuarial, pulled September 10, 2026.
The bottom of the market moves in small steps early and a bigger one late. The cheapest Plan G rises $7.08 from 65 to 70, $21.99 from 70 to 75, then $23.67 from 75 to 80. The top of the market is a different animal: Guarantee Trust Life files $358.58 at 65 and Guarantee Trust Life files $566.82 at 80. In Davidson County at 65, $240.63 a month separates SilverScript (Aetna) from Guarantee Trust Life, about $57,751 over 20 years before a single rate increase. Plan G does not cover the Part B deductible ($283 in 2026), and no carrier on this list changes that.
Plan N in Tennessee at 65, 70, 75 and 80
Plan N is the cheaper letter. The lowest filed Plan N at 65 is $86.30 (TRH Health (Tennessee Farm Bureau), Anderson County), $31.65 under the cheapest Plan G. In Davidson County the low is $86.30 from TRH Health (Tennessee Farm Bureau). That one is Tennessee Farm Bureau's plan, and it requires a Farm Bureau membership. Plan N adds copays of up to $20 at some office visits and up to $50 at an ER visit that does not end in admission, and it leaves Part B excess charges to the patient. Plan G pays those.
| Plan N at age | Cheapest filed (carrier) | Step from prior age | Median carrier | Highest filed (carrier) | Carriers |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 65 | $86.30 (TRH Health (Tennessee Farm Bureau)) | starting band | $116.07 | $272.00 (United American) | 28 |
| 70 | $93.99 (GPM Health and Life) | +$7.69 | $124.96 | $344.00 (United American) | 28 |
| 75 | $112.93 (GPM Health and Life) | +$18.94 | $151.18 | $399.00 (United American) | 28 |
| 80 | $135.20 (GPM Health and Life) | +$22.27 | $186.91 | $446.00 (United American) | 28 |

Filed rates for ZIP 37221, Davidson County, female, non-tobacco, best rate class at each age. Carriers with a review on this site are linked.
Washington National climbs the steepest in percent, $154.02 to $318.43, up 107%. Guarantee Trust Life adds the most dollars, $208.24 a month. Medico Insurance Company climbs the least, $160.64 to $204.50, up 27%. Watch what that does to the ranking. SilverScript (Aetna) is the cheapest Davidson County filing at 65 ($117.95); by 80 the cheapest is Physicians Mutual ($170.69). The carrier that wins at 65 is not always the carrier that wins at 80, and a policy bought at one age is held through the others.
Attained Age, Issue Age, Community Rated: How Tennessee Splits
27 of the 29 carriers in the Davidson County table price on attained age. 2 rows carry the community-rated label, and both belong to AARP / UnitedHealthcare. None prices on issue age. Here is what each label means.
- Attained age: the premium rises with each birthday, plus whatever the carrier files on the block. The climb table above is this label, carrier by carrier.
- Issue age: the premium is set by age at purchase and moves only when the carrier files an increase on the block. No Tennessee carrier in this file uses it.
- Community rated: one premium for every age, moving only with block filings. The community-rated rows here belong to AARP / UnitedHealthcare, filed under separate entities (NAIC 79413 and 84549). Between them those filings carry several rate classes at 65, topping out at $606.76, so the dollar you are quoted turns on the class you are issued. Ask which entity and which class before you set the number beside an attained-age filing.
With 27 of 29 carriers on attained age, the Tennessee question is which slope to be on. Between 65 and 80 the Davidson County slopes run from 27% to 107% on the same Plan G.
Tennessee's 65 ranking is not its 80 ranking.

Apply Up to Six Months Before Part B Starts
A Medigap application can go in up to six months ahead of the Part B start date. That lead time gets the policy in force on day one. It does not buy a cheaper band, because attained-age carriers price the first year at the age when coverage starts. In Davidson County the 65 band is $117.95 on the cheapest filing, $117.95 in most other Tennessee counties. Age is what moves that band. The cheapest Davidson County filing at 70 is $125.03, $7.08 a month more, and 27 of the 29 carriers here price on attained age, so the birthday step keeps coming after year one. The six-month open enrollment window that begins at 65 with Part B in force is also the window with no health questions. Outside it, a Tennessee carrier may underwrite unless a guaranteed-issue right applies. Tennessee has no birthday-rule switching window.
County Barely Moves the Tennessee Price
Tennessee has 95 counties in 32 rating areas, and the cheapest Plan G at 65 is $117.95 in 16 of the 16 counties we key on. The gap between the cheapest county's low and the priciest county's low is $0.00 at 65, $0.00 at 70, $0.00 at 75 (Wilson County, where the low is SilverScript (Aetna) at $147.02) and $0.00 at 80. So one county's table is a close guide in Tennessee, but it is still not your quote. Age, ZIP, tobacco use and health answers set the final number.
Who Buys What in Tennessee
Tennessee held 308,365 Medigap lives at December 2023, counted in the NAIC Medicare Supplement Experience Exhibit via AHIP May 2025 report. Plan G held 142,900 of them and Plan N 20,123, about 7.1 Plan G members for every Plan N member. Plan F still carried 125,018, but Plan F is closed to anyone new to Medicare on or after January 1, 2020, and the filings quote it only from 72 up, so this page builds no Plan F table. Counts are statewide by plan letter, not per carrier or county.
Methodology
- Source: CSG Actuarial rate filings, pulled September 10, 2026. No rate on this page was typed; each renders from the filing data.
- Profile: female, non-tobacco, individual policy, no household discount applied unless the sentence says so.
- Counties: each of Tennessee's 95 counties was quoted through a sample ZIP for its rating area. That ZIP is not always inside the county it prices, so read it as a rating-area marker, not an address. The carrier table on this page is Davidson County, quoted at ZIP 37221.
- “Cheapest filed” in the age tables is the lowest county low anywhere in the state; “highest” is the priciest single filing at its best rate class. A spread is the dollar distance between two filings for one plan letter at one age.
- Carrier counts move as blocks open and close. Davidson County quotes 29 carriers at 65; the statewide count is 29.
- Tennessee rates vary by rating area (32 of them). One county's table is a close guide here, not your quote.
- Plan F is quoted only at 72 and up in this data and is closed to anyone new to Medicare on or after January 1, 2020, so there is no Plan F table.
- Enrollment counts are statewide by plan letter, not per carrier or county. Source: NAIC Medicare Supplement Experience Exhibit via AHIP May 2025 report, as of December 2023.
