Plan G vs Plan N in Florida: The Discount Depends on Your County

By Anthony Orner, Independent Licensed Medicare Insurance Broker · Florida filed rates pulled September 9, 2026, CSG Actuarial · Hillsborough County (ZIP 33547)

In Hillsborough County, the cheapest Plan N is $148.43 and the cheapest Plan G is $200.58, both filed by GPM Health and Life for a 65-year-old woman who does not use tobacco (CSG Actuarial, pulled September 9, 2026). Drive to Miami-Dade County and the same two floors sit $30.50 apart; in Palm Beach County, $65.76.

Florida is the state where the county question comes before the letter question. The Plan G floor here is $200.58, which ranks 27 of 28 among the state files we hold, so the whole board is dear and the Plan N discount is worth more in dollars than it is in most states. Every one of the 23 carriers prices on issue age, so whichever letter you choose at 65 keeps its age-65 basis.

Carriers pay the broker. The filed premium is what you pay, with or without us.

County First: The G-to-N Gap Across 18 Florida Counties

12 of the 18 key counties share the Hillsborough County floors exactly. Miami-Dade County is the outlier: Plan G is $260.57 there, Plan N $230.07, and the $30.50 between them is the smallest Plan N discount in the file for Florida. Palm Beach County runs the other way, $65.76 between the letters.

ZIP 33547, CSG Actuarial filings pulled September 9, 2026; each carrier's lowest filed rate class. Rank in parentheses is that carrier's place among the 23 Plan G and 22 Plan N filings on the Hillsborough County board. Everence Association files Plan G only.

Issue Age: The Basis You Buy Is the Basis You Keep

Florida is one of 3 states in our file where every carrier, all 23 on the Hillsborough County board, prices on issue age. The rate in the table is the rate for someone who buys at that age; it does not step up on birthdays, only on block filings. Buy Plan N at 65 and the floor is $148.43; wait until 75 to buy and the same letter starts at $177.44. Plan G goes $200.58 to $236.97 over the same delay.

Copays, Excess Charges and the Florida Plan F Habit

Plan N pays the same hospital and Part B claims as Plan G, minus up to $20 at some office visits, up to $50 at an ER that does not admit you, and any Part B excess charge. Florida has no ban on excess charges, so a non-participating specialist may add up to 15% above the Medicare-approved amount to a Plan N holder's bill. Plan G pays it. Neither letter pays the $283 Part B deductible; both pay the $1,736 Part A deductible in full.

Florida is a Plan F state by the numbers: 51% of its 927,710 Medigap policies were still Plan F at the December 2023 NAIC count, against 23.9% on G and 10.3% on N. The Plan N share ranks 8 of 28 in our file. A Plan F holder who can pass underwriting is the most common caller on this page: the F block closed to newcomers in 2020, its filings run ahead of G, and the N floor of $148.43 is often less than half of what they pay.

2026 Filings Behind These Pairs

17 of the carriers above carry a 2026 Plan G filing in CSG's records, the largest United American at +17.8% effective March 15, 2026. Because Florida is issue-age, filings are the only thing that will ever move your premium, which makes a carrier's history the second column to read after its price. The state-by-state list is on 2026 Medigap rate increases.
