Plan G vs Plan N in Virginia: The Cheapest Plan N We Track Is Here
By Anthony Orner, Independent Licensed Medicare Insurance Broker · Virginia filed rates pulled September 10, 2026, CSG Actuarial · Fairfax County (ZIP 22079)
The lowest Plan N premium in the 28 state files we hold is Virginia's: $75.02 a month in Albemarle County, from Bankers Fidelity Assurance, for a 65-year-old woman who does not use tobacco (CSG Actuarial, pulled September 10, 2026). In Fairfax County the same company files $87.03 for Plan N and $109.75 for Plan G, $22.72 apart.
With Part B at $202.90, the lowest Medicare bill anywhere in Virginia is $277.92 a month on Plan N. The catch is the size of the discount: $22.72 is one of the narrowest floor gaps in our file, 2 of 28, and $273 a year is only 13 office copays. Cheap Plan N and cheap Plan G arrive together here, so the letter is a smaller decision than the carrier.

Plan N gives back up to $20 at some office visits and up to $50 at an ER that sends you home. It also leaves Part B excess charges to you, and Virginia does not forbid them, so a non-participating doctor may add up to 15% above the approved amount. Plan G pays all three. Both letters pay the $1,736 Part A deductible and neither pays the $283 Part B deductible.

Methodology
- Every premium is a filed rate read at build time from the Virginia file of our licensed CSG Actuarial pull dated September 10, 2026. No number is typed.
- Profile: woman, non-tobacco, individual, no household discount, ZIP 22079 in Fairfax County; each carrier's lowest filed rate class.
- Pairs match a carrier's two letters by NAIC code. Direct-to-consumer and guaranteed-issue classes and rows above four times the state median are excluded.
- “Lowest Plan N we track” compares each state file's statewide Plan N floor at 65 across the 28 files carrying both letters.
- County groups are the distinct floor pairs among the key counties, each quoted at the ZIP with the largest land overlap.
- Enrollment is the NAIC statewide count as of December 2023. The Part B premium, copay caps and deductibles are 2026 federal figures from one source file.
