Plan G vs Plan N in Ohio: Where the Cheapest Plan G Beats 27 of 33 Plan N Filings
By Anthony Orner, Independent Licensed Medicare Insurance Broker · Ohio filed rates pulled September 11, 2026, CSG Actuarial · Cuyahoga County (ZIP 44139)
The cheapest Plan G in Cuyahoga County is $118.17, filed by AARP / UnitedHealthcare for a 65-year-old woman who does not use tobacco (CSG Actuarial, pulled September 11, 2026). 27 of the 33 Plan N filings on the same board cost more than that Plan G. The cheapest Plan N, $102.31 from Bankers Fidelity (Atlantic Capital Life), is $15.86 under it, $190 a year.
That $15.86 is the narrowest floor-to-floor gap in the 28 state files we hold, and it is only 9 office copays a year. Add Ohio's law against Part B excess charges, which removes Plan N's biggest exposure for in-state care, and the letter question in Ohio becomes a carrier question: at the floor, buy the Plan G; at a carrier that prices the letters $60 apart, Plan N has a case.
The carrier pays the broker. The filed premium is the same with or without us.

Community Rating Moves the Floor After 65
AARP / UnitedHealthcare charges $118.17 for Plan G at 65, 70, 75 and 80 alike. The 31 attained-age carriers on the board start low and step up on birthdays. So the Plan G floor changes hands: AARP / UnitedHealthcare at 65, Medico Life and Health at 75 with $158.23. The floor gap between the letters is $22.50 at 70 and $35.37 at 75, wider than at 65 because the community-rated Plan G no longer sits at the bottom.

Get My Ohio G vs N Answer — 855-559-1700Copays, the Ohio Excess-Charge Rule, and Who Holds Plan N
Plan N asks up to $20 at some office visits and up to $50 at an ER visit that does not become an admission. It does not pay Part B excess charges, and in Ohio that is moot for in-state care: state law forbids providers from billing Medicare patients above the approved amount. Both letters pay the $1,736 Part A deductible; neither pays the $283 Part B deductible.
Ohio held 81,576 Plan N policies at the December 2023 NAIC count, 13.5% of 602,210, against 295,149 on Plan G and 182,905 on Plan F. 31 carriers in the table carry a 2026 Plan G filing, the largest AARP / UnitedHealthcare at +35.8% effective June 1, 2026. A filing hits both letters from that carrier at once; the full Ohio list is on 2026 Medigap rate increases.
Methodology
- Every premium is a filed rate read at build time from the Ohio file of our licensed CSG Actuarial pull dated September 11, 2026. No figure is typed.
- Profile: woman, non-tobacco, individual, no household discount, ZIP 44139 in Cuyahoga County; each carrier's lowest filed rate class. Bundled Plan G variants excluded.
- “Plan N filings over the cheapest Plan G” counts Plan N lines on the Cuyahoga County board filed at or above $118.17.
- Pairs match a company's two letters by NAIC code. Direct-to-consumer and guaranteed-issue classes and rows above four times the state median are excluded.
- The excess-charge statement is Ohio law for care delivered in Ohio. Cross-state ranks compare Ohio with the 28 state files carrying both letters at 65.
- Enrollment is the NAIC statewide count as of December 2023. Copay caps and deductibles are 2026 federal figures from one source file.
