* More than one class is filed; the table shows the cheapest. Dearest class at 65: Bankers Fidelity Assurance $137.16, Medico Insurance Company $173.93, Washington National $181.69, Blue Cross Blue Shield $163.75, AARP / UnitedHealthcare (NAIC 79413) $520.86, AARP / UnitedHealthcare (NAIC 84549) $614.89, HealthSpring National Health (HCSC) $275.15. A dash under AM Best means the file carries no letter grade for Plateau Insurance. Source: CSG Actuarial filings, pulled September 11, 2026, ZIP 29690.
Blue Cross Blue Shield also files guarantee-issue classes in South Carolina, and those are not in this table. Our converter drops guaranteed-issue classes on the rule that they apply only to someone holding a guaranteed-issue right, so the line shown is the cheapest class left in the file. Bundled Plan G variants from Physicians Mutual are left out as well, since they cover more than standard Plan G.
Filings stack. Of the 25 carriers, 18 have a Plan G filing on record in each of 2024, 2025 and 2026. A 0.00% filing counts there; it left the rate alone. For the 17 of them compared below, those three years multiply out to between about +13% (State Farm) and about +66% (Aetna Health Insurance). Bankers Fidelity Assurance, the cheapest at 65, comes to about +15%, the second-lowest of the 17. That is arithmetic on filed percentages, not anyone's bill. On an attained-age policy the birthday steps come on top. Humana Insurance Company (NAIC 73288) sits out of that comparison: a filing in its recent history fails our check for restatements, so it shows in the table and carries no ranking.
The ends of the table are $134.93 a month apart for one federal benefit. A year of that gap is $1,619 at age-65 rates. The other 23 carriers sit between the two.
25 filings for one federal Plan G, $134.93 apart in Greenville County.

These 13 counties land on two floor prices: $114.30 in Greenville, Richland, Lexington, York, Anderson, Sumter and Pickens; $124.59 in Charleston, Beaufort, Berkeley, Dorchester, Florence and Aiken. The middle of each table moves more than the floor does. County medians run from $153.80 in Greenville to $169.32 in Berkeley, a $15.52 spread against $10.29 between floors. On the $124.59 line the cheapest Plan N comes from Washington National instead. Across all 46 counties the dearest county floor is $124.59, the rate in Charleston County.

Source: CSG Actuarial licensed API (rate_increases on each quote). Each row changes the carrier's whole South Carolina block; it is not one person's renewal letter. The Plan N column reads the same company's Plan N history on the same effective date, and a dash means none was recorded.
Of the 23 filings, 6 moved Plan N by a different percentage than Plan G. The widest splits: Washington National +20.00% on G against 0.00% on N, Guarantee Trust Life +7.90% on G against 0.00% on N and United American +14.77% on G against +19.93% on N. When the two percentages differ, the dollar gap between the letters changes with them. Every state's list is on the 2026 Medigap rate increases page.

How This Index Was Built
- Source: CSG Actuarial licensed API, pulled September 11, 2026. Every rate renders from the South Carolina file at build time; none is typed.
- Profile: female, non-tobacco, individual, no household discount. A man, a smoker or a couple gets other numbers.
- Geography: 46 counties grouped into 42 rating areas, one sample ZIP each. Greenville County (ZIP 29690) is the flagship. Horry, Spartanburg and Laurens stay out of the county table until the pull quotes their own ZIPs.
- Excluded classes: direct-to-consumer, guaranteed-issue and bundled Plan G variants, plus any row above four times the statewide median. That is why Blue Cross Blue Shield shows only its non-guarantee-issue classes.
- Filing stacks multiply each filed percentage since January 2024, only for carriers with a filing on record in every one of those years; a 0.00% filing counts. A history holding a filing our restatement check flags is left out of any ranking but stays in the table.
- State rule: the NAIC's state Medigap rules chart (as of May 11, 2026) shows no birthday rule for South Carolina, so a switch after open enrollment means health questions unless a guaranteed-issue right applies.
- Cross-state ranks compare the 28 state files on the same profile; the median is statewide, the floor is the flagship county.
- Plan F is closed to anyone new to Medicare since January 1, 2020, so neither table prices it. Plan G leaves the $283 Part B deductible with you.
